Great Views - but quite a climb to the top
It was really tiring climbing to the top of the Montagne de Bueren staircase. Apparently there are 373 steps to the very top and I did try to count them, but soon lost count and gave up. We sat on a bench half-way up for a much needed rest. The stairs were originally built to link the Old Town area of Liege, from the Rue Hors Chateau, with the top of the mountain, where there was a military fortress. If you're not in a rush, then take you time, sit down and enjoy the views, you'll make it to the top! There can't be many staircases like this in the whole world.

The Citdadel
You can reach the Citadel by either climbing the Bueren Mountain staircase (Montagne de Bueren) or alternatively you are actually drive to the top, following a narrow and winding lane. We chose the stairs, which is think is by far the most fun way, but also the most exhausting - no doubt about that. There isn't much of the top except for a hospital and I couldn't see the ruins of the Citadel. Nice views though.
